Built in , the R. H. Rugg House is the first dwelling built and occupied in Brodhead.



 Russel Rugg

Russel Rugg was a machinist, painter, and active in the Methodist church. He assisted in erecting the building, and his name can be found on a 1858 deed to one of the pews.

Russel was married to Mary, and they had three children: Luella, Walter, and Howard.

Russell's son Walter was vice president of Westinghouse, and removed to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

Russel sold the house in 1869

The R. H. Rugg House's Fate

The Rugg house has been razed, and the lot is now an extended yard of the adjoined property.
